We are back! ¡Estamos de vuelta!

We did it! Last week, and after more than two years without extracurricular activities, we finally managed to organise a lingüistic inmersion. Our students from 1st and 2nd ESO participated in this activity from the 25th to the 28th of October in Cuacos de Yuste. 

During these days, we did different activities and visited several places while we used English as our main language. Don't worry! Anything we didn't understand was translated by the monitors!

¡Por fin! La semana pasada, y después de más de dos años sin actividades extraescolares, hemos podido organizar una inmersión lingüística. Nuestros alumnos de 1º y 2º de ESO han participado en esta actividad del 25 al 28 de octubre en Cuacos de Yuste.

Durante estos días, hemos hecho diferentes actividades y visitado varios sitios usando el inglés como nuestro principal idioma. ¡Tranquilos! Todo lo que no se entendía lo traducían los monitores.

The first day, we visited Cornalvo Natural Park on our way to Cuacos. There, we went into the visitors centre where we watched a video in English about the park's wildlife.

Later, we had a walk through the meadow and had a look at the Roman Dam.

El primer día visitamos el parque natural de Cornalvo de camino a Cuacos. Allí fuimos al centro de interpretación donde vimos un vídeo en inglés sobre la vida salvaje del parque.

Después dimos un paseo por la dehesa hasta llegar a la presa romana de Cornalvo.

Once we visited the park it was time to head north towards Cuacos de Yuste's CEA, our home for the next three days.

It is situated opposite the monastery, in a beautiful oak forest. That day we were told about the rules of the place and we did some sports to get to know each other better. Our monitor Storey taught us how to prepare lotions with local herbs.

At night, we played a horror game in the forest called 'The Mammoth'

Una vez visto el parque, nos pusimos camino al norte, hacia el CEA de Cuacos de Yuste, nuestra casa durante los próximos tres días.

Está situado enfrente del monasterio, en un bosque de robles precioso. Allí nos dijeron cuáles son las normas del centro e hicimos deporte para conocernos mejor unos a otros. También, nuestro monitor Storey nos enseñó a preparar cremas con plantas autóctonas.

Por la noche jugamos al 'Mamut' en el bosque, un juego de terror.

The second day, we went to Monfragüe National Park, where we rode a boat to see its wildlife and also went into the visitor's centre. We were very lucky as two of our monitors are biologists!

Before heading back to camp, we played 'The Princess' and at night we played another horror game in the forest. Our students are very brave indeed!

El segundo día fuimos al parque nacional de Monfragüe, donde nos montamos en el crucero para ver su fauna salvaje. Tuvimos mucha suerte ya que dos de nuestros monitores son biólogos.

Antes de volver al campamento jugamos al juego de la princesa y por la noche otro juego de terror en el bosque. ¡Nuestros alumnos son muy valientes!

On Wednesday we had the chance to relax in camp. During the morning we had different  environmental workshops. We learned about energy and we built our own electric cars! We had a race at the end. The car named 'Derby' was the winner!

In the afternoon, we played a orientation gymkhana with compasses and visited the monastery. Later, we went down the mountain to see Cuacos de Yuste and then went back up again. At night, we had a party!

El miércoles nos relajamos en el campamento. Por la mañana hicimos diferentes talleres sobre el medio ambiente. Aprendimos sobre energías y construimos nuestros propios coches eléctricos. Hicimos carreras con ellos y el ganador fue el coche 'Derby'.

Por la tarde hicimos una gymkhana de orientación y visitamos el monasterio de Yuste. Después bajamos al pueblo de Cuacos de Yuste y volvimos a subir hacia el campamento. ¡Por la noche tuvimos una fiesta!

Finally, Thursday came and so did the time to go back to Mérida. Before heading back, we visited 'Los Hornos' Recovery Centre in Sierra de Fuentes, where we had a closer look at some animals. One of them was Nautilus, a male Iberian Lynx who was kind enough to come by to greet us.

From there we went back to school where we barely made it to the buses that took everyone home.

Finalmente llegó el jueves y, con él, el día de vuelta a Mérida. Antes de volver a casa visitamos el centro de recuperación 'Los Hornos' en Sierra de Fuentes, donde pudimos ver de cerca muchos animales. Entre ellos  conocimos a Nautilus, un macho de lince ibérico que muy amablemente salió a saludarnos.

Desde allí volvimos al instituto, donde por poco cogimos los autobuses que nos llevan a casa.
